Critical Resistance is an advocacy and educational organization whose founder, Ruth Wilson Gilmore, is a long time prison abolitionist from California (the heart of the Prison Industrial Complex). They have been advocating for halting prison construction and also educating people about the oppressive nature of the PIC for decades. Her book, Golden Gulag, forever changes perspective on prisons/policing and exposes how these systems actually perpetuate crime and poverty among POC and low socioeconomic communities rather than keep us safe.
